Cold and Flu Prevention

Cold and Flu season is a time of year many of us dread! The time off from work, sick kiddos can’t go to school. Not to mention the many of boxes of tissues you go through and sleepless nights from coughing, sneezing and nose blowing.

Sounds like fun times, right? Not!

But how does one protect themselves with hiding in a bubble all winter long? Or without spending many hours of your life at the doctors and the pharmacy getting over the counter medicines that does really work.

These nasty little germs are airborne and they spread when people cough and sneeze. They float through the air and enter into your body from your mouth and nose. Hand shaking isn’t the only way to spread.

Take care of the germs in the air and you greatly reduce the chance of infection. This doesn’t mean you start spraying a can of lysol every 10 minutes, not really healthy for your lunges.

A essential oil diffuser in your home and office will do just the trick. All essential oils have antibacterial and antiviral properties. So in theory you can use any essential oils to kill those cold and flu germs in the air.

But I am going to share a few of my favorites

  • Eucalyptus
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Lavender
  • All citrus oils
  • Ginger
  • Melaleuca (tea tree)
  • Basil
  • Rosemary

This is really just a short list of suggestions, but it’s a good place to start.

For prevention use your essential oil diffuser all the time during cold and flu season. And if you or a family member is battling an infection make sure you have your diffuser running at night. That way the oils have a chance to get into your lungs and reduce the chances of reinfection from coughing and sneezing at night.

This simple tool can really help make this cold and flu season a breeze!
