Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a very gentle and hands on form of massage. It evaluates and enhances the functions of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system is made up of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid, these help to protect the brain and spinal cord. This massage does tons of good for your body like relieving migraines and headaches, sinus pain, fatigue, autism and many others. But what the actual massage consist of, you may ask. Well to answer that question it consists of the therapist gently touching the fluids and different membranes around the skull and spinal cord to relive tension and promote better health in the body.

This releases energy blocks and helps the bodies’ energy flow easier, thus creating a better feeling in the body. This massage can also help with post-traumatic stress disorder and help relieve symptoms of it. The massage mainly deals with the bones in the head, scrum, the underlying structure and the spinal column. This promotes the body to heal itself by releasing the trapped energy in the body.

It has also been known to relieve restlessness, ear aches and colic, as well as help you sleep better (and we all know that sleep is important to our body’s health). This massage is even safe for babies and small children, it can help to relieve the pain of ear aches and help them sleep better at night. This can even help with emotional issues; you’ll leave to room feeling like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. This is a very light pressured massage, so don’t walk in expecting a lot of pressure because you will not get it. If you do want this massage make sure you find someone with experience and remember this massage has tons of health benefits that is not all of them.

Craniosacral therapy after surgery

I love craniosacral therapy (CST) it has some many wonderful benefits for the body ! But this blog post I am just going to highlight one. You are going to learn about craniosacral therapy after surgery (CST).

CST is such a great option for post surgery bodywork, why? It is such a gentle therapy and a well intune practitioner can feel just what your tissue needs no matter how subtle your body is talking. Yes you heard me right, your cells talk to the therapist and give cues as to what it needs at that moment. The therapist can feel where your energy is blocked.

And any surgery is very traumatic to the whole body because of the anesthesia and the actually surgery. Then you add in the swelling after and this can really throw your body way off.

So the 2 big complaints
people tend to have

After a surgery are swelling and nerve damage/loss of feeling. And CST can address both of these issue quite wonderfully.

With swelling the tissue becomes inflamed and filled with fluid as part of the healing process. CST therapist can feel right were the circulation is blocked and work on releasing that area, so the fluid has a place to drain. And just by addressing this concern often times this will also help heal the nerve damage as well. Often times nerve damage/loss of feeling is due to swelling in the surrounding tissue.

Then the spinal column maybe the next place to get a feel for. There maybe some compression in the spine and the adjacent tissues. With some fascial unwinding can help to release the tissue and again give the body the ability to have a place for the fluid to move to so it doesn’t congest in one place.

CST is very stuttle quite work and the client who is a first timer may not feel anything at first, but that doesn’t mean changes are not happening. Usually the first time client will just notice how very relaxing the treatment is, clients become very relaxed and just sink into the table. You may not notice how the work affects you for a few days.

You also need to receive more than 1 treatment  especially for post surgery work. 1 session a week for 4 weeks is a good place to start. Getting craniosacral therapy after surgery on a regular basis while you are healing is going to greatly reduce the formation of scar tissue and help with range of motion as well.

Craniosacral therapy for infants

Craniosacral therapy for infants is starting to become a very popular services for parents. It’s a wonderful treatment that can help your new baby with recovering from a birth trauma or other issues that may come up in the months ahead.

Is it for your baby?

It can help any baby or child. Some of the common reason a parent may be seeking this service for their infant. A long a hard labor and delivery. This puts a lot of stress on a young life and if forceps or a vacuum has been used it can effect down the road how the cranial bones form together. Great thing is its an easy fix to align those cranial bones so that they fuse together correctly.

Colic baby and other digestion issues. When infants are young and don’t sit up on their own. The spine does not have a good curve yet and that can put stress on the nerve that controls digestion. A short craniosacral therapy session along with chiropractic care can help take the pressure off of that nerve in the back.

If your baby has chronic ear infections a session that works to correct the sinuses, so that they can drain properly. What tends to happen the sinuses become impacted, especially during teething. This affects how effective the sinuses can drain and the fluid builds up which allows for the growth of bacteria in the ear. Opening up those sinuses will get that fluid draining right away.

How quickly does a session work?

Fast. Sessions are short and sweet. Newborns tend to be about 15 minutes long, older children can be up to 30 minutes. The baby will lay on the table most of the time, but if your little one is fussy a parent may need to hold the baby for comfort. So during your session come prepared with favorite toys, comfort blankets, and bottles for feeding. All these things maybe used during the session to help keep the baby as calm as possible.

If your baby is fussy and crying, that’s fine. Therapists are trained to be able to tune all that out and still be effective even if your baby isn’t happy. Sometimes the fussiness means your child is uncomfortable because of the changes that are happening. If that’s happening the therapist will work fast to make the proper adjustments to help your little one be as comfortable as possible.
